Where do I start?
We at Tradewinds Building Company try to answer some frequently asked questions that we get all the time from customers just like you.

How do I go about choosing the right builder?
The first thing you want to be able to do is get a good feel for the builder in talking with them. You must remember this is the person you will be dealing with day in and day out for the next few months.
The next is get a few references from that builder and talk with past clients about their experience.
Lastly, you must look at the quality of that builder. Are you looking for the best quality or the cheapest price? This is a question you have to answer for yourself.

After choosing my builder what next?
The first thing you will want to do is sit down with the builder and look at plans he has built in the past that may interest you. If nothing jumps out at you then you will want to make an appointment to visit the builder's draftsman to begin creating your own personal home. You will then want to decide things such as where you would like tile and hardwood. Only then can the builder begin the bidding process.

After receiving the bid, when can we get started?
After we receive a full set of plans we will submit to the building department for the proper permits. Depending on where you are building, but usually the plans take around 3 weeks to get back. Then we can break ground and get started on building your dream home.

What if I change my mind during the construction process and want to change something?
You wouldn't be human if you didn't change your mind. We know this because we see it every day. A simple change order is drawn up and the changes will be made accordingly.

How long will my home take to build?
Depending on the size of your home will determine the outcome, but also things such as change orders and weather play a role. Any changes that are made will often hold the job up a little. Most homes range anywhere from 4-6 months from time of breaking ground to completion. We work hard to give you, the client, a pretty close schedule of when things should be happening on your job.

What if something happens after we move in?
Tradewinds has an excellent warranty program. From time of close you have a one year warranty. Most things such as cracking in the drywall and cabinet doors settling, happen within the first 30 days which is why after 30 days we want you to send us a list of anything that may need looked at. The same is true after 90 days. We do everything in our power to make sure that you are not just taken care of during the construction of your home, but also after you and your family have moved in.
